Goodbye Sorties, Hello Activities

“There are two hard things in computer science: cache invalidation, naming things, and off-by-one errors.”

— Phil Karlton

On Monday evening, we're making two meaningful changes to Alludo: we are renaming "sorties" to "activities", and consolidating level icons and level into a badge. Most people won't notice much of a difference. Most of the changes are behind the scenes.

Sorties are the lowest tier in Alludo's level-mission-sortie structure. They are a bit of a "gamer" concept, and we found ourselves having to explain the concept to the majority of our customers: "Think of a 'sortie' as a "task" or an "activity'". Rather than spending time translating, we decided it was time to use language that was meaningful to you.

While most people won't notice much of a change, the change is a really big one as sorties touch nearly everything within the Alludo ecosystem. We could have simply altered the UI - replacing "sorties" with "activities" - but that would have only deferred our costs for later. We prefer to do things right rather than "right away."

The changes will be applied Monday evening. We do not anticipate any interruption in service.
